Neighbourhood

St George’s Victory House is set on St George’s Road, a great little stretch that quietly connects Portsmouth’s past with its present. It’s one of those areas where history, the waterfront, and everyday city life all meet.

Just a short walk away you’ll spot Landport Gate, an impressive 18th-century stone gateway that once marked the main entrance into Old Portsmouth. It’s the only original town gate still standing in its original place and makes a nice starting point for a wander towards the harbour.

From here, it’s an easy walk towards the waterfront and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home to famous ships like HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. You can also pick up the Nelson Trail nearby — a relaxed, self-guided walk through Old Portsmouth’s cobbled streets and seaside views.

If you’re after food, drinks, or a bit of shopping, Gunwharf Quays is close by, with plenty of restaurants right on the water. The Spinnaker Tower towers above it all and is well worth a visit for the views over the city and the Solent.

What guests love most is the balance — you’re right near the action, but the area around St George’s Victory House stays calm and residential. Everything is walkable, from historic pubs and coastal paths to museums and cafés, making it a great base to explore Portsmouth at your own pace.
